Giant Space Aliens and Cosmetics Don't Mix Tuesday!

From Detective #270, a Moment of Comic Book Greatness!(tm!):

See that big powder puff in the background? The negative health consequences of the Gotham City Zoning Ordinances allowing big clouds of powder to be constantly dispersed into the atmosphere notwithstanding, you just know this is going to be awesome!

Wait for it.... wait for it....

Oh, yeah! They're fighting a giant space alien! YEAH, baby!

That's right! Batman took out a giant space alien with a giant powder puff! So SUCK IT, Superman!

And remember, kids:

CASEY THE COP....

HAS NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH HIS TIME THAN MONITOR THE CALORIC INTAKE OF RANDOM CHILDREN.

Wow, we've taken a weird turn, haven't we? It must be all those Showcase comics I've been reading...

See you tomorrow!

That "Avod" advertisement got me thinking: It's a good thing Beaver Cleaver didn't live in Gotham City, otherwise he'd have been scalded to death by a giant bowl of soup.

Oh, and speaking of "Gotham City Zoning Ordinances," Anton Furst's designs for the 1989 movie were partially inspired by what New York might look like if there weren't any Zoning Ordinances (no giant fully functional powder puffs, though).

Of course he did!
He's BATMAN, dammit...the man who can out-think and outmaneuver ANYONE, human or alien!

Exemplified by one of my favorite lines from the tv series...
ROBIN: "Gosh, Batman! Is there ANYTHING you don't know?"
BATMAN: "Why, yes, Robin! Several things, in fact!"
(Which begs the question; how does he know exactly what he doesn't know? You gotta be smart to know that!)

I seem to remember an episode of "The Brady Bunch" where Mike Brady's architecture firm was hired by a cosmetics mogul who wanted her new building to be a giant opening and closing compact. Mr. Brady had to explain the physical impracticality of her concept.

The Brady Bunch more realistic than Batman???????????? I think not!!!!

And Casey the Cop just wants to hog all the pie to himself.

Batman took out a giant space alien with a giant powder puff. I have to admit it...reluctantly..that sometimes even I think that Batman is awesome.

…and look what happened to American youth in the years since Casey retired!

Considering how avidly the media buy into the "obesity epidemic" idea, I think cops like Casey will show up with increasing frequency in the next few years.

Nathan, the difference will be that, while Casey had to rely upon rhetoric, in future the Social Spider-We— er… Social Safety-Net will be protected by more coĆ«rcive means. ;-)
