Well, the murder-happy Thuggee sect of India (a.k.a. the Stranglers) did like to throttle folks to death with ropes and such, but Starman makes it sound like they spin lassos around while dispensing homespun wisdom like Will freakin' Rogers. (I'm not sure which would be worse, actually.)
