I Can Go Right Through Things Except When I Can't!

Keeping up with the second issue of the Green Lantern, Volume 1.  Join me, won't you?

"Cutting through the motor as if it were cheese?"  Oh, Alan.  You're always looking to cut the cheese.

Okay, I'm not proud of that one, but sometimes the set-up just can't be ignored.

It's funny to me how slow they were (with Batman being the notable exception) to introduce real super-villains back in the day.  I don't understand why you'd have a periodical packed with the adventures of a super-powered good guy and have him fight lame-o's like...

Yes.  His name was "Baldy."

It gets worse.  Read on:

I SAID READ ON!

Yes.  We all saw it.  It's right there.  He was stopped by a gag straight out of The Three Stooges.

Why did this work?

Glad you asked:

Okay, everyone get that?  Green Lantern's ring doesn't affect non-metals.

Unless you count bricks.

It will totally work on bricks.

And sheet rock.

You see what I mean?  He can go intangible through all kinds of non-metal things.

Heck, just two pages earlier....

Yup.  He just went through a door like the one he couldn't go through two pages later.

I understand we're still in the early stages and figuring out the powers and all that, but when the man knocks himself out by plowing into something he can clearly go right through, we need a rewrite.

BLARG!  I need some Fun with Out of Context Dialogue! (tm!)

That's what SHE said!

See you tomorrow!

I'm pretty sure wood was his only problem(hee, hee, "wood")

It certainly ended up being the case, but the early stories were pretty confusing. The door he went through looked like wood to me.... heh... "looked like wood!" :-)

Good to know Hal isn't the only Lantern who's prone to getting hit on the head.
