What Constituted Entertainment Back in the Day Monday!

So Ryan Reynolds is going to be both Deadpool and Green Lantern in two comic book movies coming out at about the same time? I think he can pull it off. I haven't seen Wolverine, but I enjoyed his work in Blade: Trinity and Smokin' Aces, so I think he has the action hero chops. I also loved Waiting and Just Friends, but I don't think that counts for much.

I had heard the rumor that Jack Black was under consideration to play Green Lantern, but that doesn't appear to have had much basis in fact. Although I was very proud when Beloved said, "Wouldn't Jack Black be a better Blue Beetle?" She was talking about the Ted Kord version when he was overweight a la the Giffen era, and I couldn't have been more proud. For a non-comic geekette, she gives it her all.

Speaking of comics:

I thought this was interesting because the name of the paper is the Daily Bugle. For you non-comic types, this is about two decades before Marvel would use the name for the newspaper where Peter (Spider-Man) Parker works. Because here at CMNS, we appreciate funky coincidences.

You know what was apparently fun to read back in the day? This:

Kind of makes you warm up to Team America, doesn't it?

Hey! It's time for Fun with Out of Context Dialogue! (tm!):

Calling Dr. Batman!

This is either the most bitchin' or worst HMO ever. I'm not sure which, but the sight of Robin getting ready to perform surgery gives me concerns.

See you tomorrow!

Batman just REALLY sometimes wishes he'd become a doctor like his dear old Dad. Although he likes to use a reciprocating saw instead of a scalpel.

Poor Robin, just looks queasy.

"Back in the day?" I saw this exact same plot being used in a current cartoon, not a few years back. And not a cartoon for pre-schoolers, either.
