Sorry no sarcastic comment here, but throughout elementary school, I received compliments from my teachers for my large vocabulary and I attribute it to Stan and the gang. I think people 45 years ago were more literate than we are today.
Oh, I have little doubt that people had a more extensive vocabulary back then. I picked up a lot of things in comics that wowed my teachers and I think comics from that era have lots of good things to teach.
Actually, Reed is a ventriloquist. You'll notice that Sue doesn't even have her mouth open.
