Tired of Your Dog? Send Him to War!

Let's start the week off with a look at Target Comics vol 4, #5, which began with a story about the training of dogs for war purposes.  Canines serving our country is, as is most things canines do, quite awesome, but I have to admit that I was a bit startled by this panel at the end:

I'm going to show this to every one of my dogs and threaten them with a trip to the local recruiting office if they don't behave themselves.  Then again, my dogs are already very familiar with the concept of "Dad does nothing when it comes to discipline because he is a sucker."

Then, things got really surreal.  All the lead-in for this you need to know is that these kids apparently weren't welcome in a particular gang of youngsters, so they decide to form their own gang.

It was a sensible plan, until someone got the idea that they should do this:

And then things go really wrong:

So, these kids, who I'm pretty sure have totally lost their minds, go raid the fort of the gang of kids who had spurned them:

And, of course, what good is a gun unless you point it at another human being?

What could possibly go wrong?

Oh, yeah.  Let's test the system.

Well, some accidents are just unavoidable, I suppose.  No way anyone could have foreseen that outcome!

There is some footage of the shot kid getting taken to the hospital and "Li'l Hitler," or whatever he's called, goes on the lam.  And then we get this.... ending?

And that, my friends, is the last panel. Wow.

Meanwhile, let's bomb Tokyo!  It's fun for the whole family!

It's totally understandable given the time period, of course.  I find this sort of period piece fascinating.  When I was a kid, we played this, which looks like a much-sanitized version of "Bomb Tokyo Right in Your Own Room":

But based on the description, the gameplay may have been similar.  Frankly, I'm afraid to Google the name of the Tokyo game to find out... who knows where that would plop me online, and the FBI probably has a file on me as it is, as a result of... well, "The Incident."  I prefer not to discuss it.

See you tomorrow!
