Propositioning Children has Its Share of Challenges

What's my beef about this cover, you ask?

Well, for starters, I just don't like Madame Web.  I'm not a big fan of any character who just kind of sits around and dispatches information and/or orders. Yawn.

It's a very passive activity, so the writers always feel like overstating their importance and I just feel like I'm being sold a bill of goods.  Information is helpful, but these days, I can "Google" just about anything.

I also don't like the caption boxes.  I generally think blurbs on covers are a mistake and this is a great example as to why.  Who is saying this to Spider-Man?  Is she speaking of herself in the third person?  If not, is someone standing off-camera?  It's very distracting.

But this issue had some Fun with Out of Context Dialogue (tm!) so there's that:

Awesome.

See you tomorrow!

Super duper! I'm sure glad I didn't have to see the "super" surprise that ensued!

I was not aware that Billy Crystal was a writer for Love Boat.

I remember being absolutely enthralled by that show. When one of the passengers had been "hurt in the past" and now had trouble "letting people in," that was an absolutely new and bizarre concept for me. I remember being amazed at that kind of thing.

And now a Billy Crystal memory. When I was a teenager I rented City Slickers II to watch with a girlfriend. We broke up, but I kept that movie in the back seat of my car for the whole summer. I don't know why I didn't return it, but it became a constant source of joking among my pals reflecting how I was such a loser for wanting to watch it in the first place, for breaking up with that girl, and for not returning it, and how that movie sucked so much.

Well, I finally snuck over to the video rental shop at around five in the morning one day and dropped it in the return box. Not three days later, that shop had closed down. Draw your own conclusions.

For the want of a nail, the battle was lost. For the want of one copy of "City Slickers 2," the video store was lost. And now the entire video rental store industry has collapsed, and we know who was "Patient Zero." :-)
