Hey? Is that Spellbinder on that Float? It is! Monday!

So as we've seen in our look at the last few Batman stories in Detective, Batman's classic rogues were starting to make a comeback, I'm sure in no small part to the Batman tv series that still makes many of us cringe.  I'm still a little stymied as to why the powers that be thought kids would rather read about Batman fighting space aliens than the Joker or the Scarecrow, but by now the error has been corrected.  And happier, I could not be.

However:

I don't know how cool it is to give these guys a their own float in the Gotham City Founder's Day parade.  I mean, these guys haven't exactly done much to help the local economy or increase tourism.  If you knew of a place where costumed lunatics were falling all over themselves looking for someone who hadn't been robbed or assaulted yet, you'd probably avoid it.  So, while I'm glad (as someone looking in from a safe distance) that the villains are back, I don't know how the citizens of Gotham should feel about them being given their own statues and literally given a parade.

And I really don't know how smart it is to be part of a parade if you've got every villain in Gotham looking to kill you.  It seems that Deadshot could have really changed comics history if he'd been around at the time.  Is that Batman?  Is he riding down the street on a float going 5 mph?  Where's my rifle?

That was from Detective #364, if you're keeping track of that sort of thing.

As a child, the Riddler was my favorite Batman villain.  I have no idea why:

I don't know that the house is what I would call "oddly furnished," but he certainly wins the prize for Most Ridiculously Dressed Henchmen.

I wouldn't want to write the Riddler.  You have to think up stupid riddles and gadgets like this:

Wow.  Really?  A puzzle map of the United States with rockets that releases gas?

Is that gas coming from New Jersey?  Because that's actually hilarious if it is.

Okay, Detective #362 gets a pass.  This time.

See you tomorrow!
