Possibly the Greatest Thing Ever Thursday!

Some days, you find stuff like this and the blog is just.... well, it's just worth it, you know what I mean?

I was familiar with Miss America because of her revival in the Invaders, but I had no idea how incredibly awesome her original series was. Read.... nay, savor!.... this page from All-Select #11:

A slap and a square pupil. Why this isn't in the Smithsonian is beyond me. A national tragedy, that's what it is.

And you know how I say Hollywood steals all its ideas from comics? Exhibit "A":

Let's sing it together, shall we?

That was fun. We should do sing-alongs more often around here. And Nabisco does make fine cookies and crackers.

And check out the classic ending:

Everyone should die by saying "AIEEEEE!" or an acceptable variation (like "EIIIIIII!" shown here) It's got a certain urgency, yet dignity to it. I also love how Miss America's own sister doesn't recognize her, even though their faces are inches apart. I guess that little pillbox bonnet on her head is so distracting, no one ever looks her directly in the face (a technique also employed by the Golden-Age Starman, who we have previously seen would carry his girlfriend around without being recognized once).

Oh, that was a delight. Would that every day could be so grand.

See you tomorrow!

I've got to admit, that was awesome. Merrill J. Bluebeard slaps her friend, and Miss A calls him out on it! Good for you, girl!

I think some recognition in the Character Hall of Fame is in order here.

Ah, the Golden Age, when nobody cared about the difference between the pupil and the iris...

1. It sounds like Mona and Madeleine are cousins, not sisters; and
2. Madeleine wears glasses and Miss America does not---so of course it's impossible to recognized they are one in the same...

Ok, well maybe he did overreact just a bit, but sheesh, he told her not to talk about the eye and it's the very first thing she mentions! Slapping is wrong, but I don't blame the guy for getting upset.

Also, "I wonder what goes on?" I didn't realize that Miss A was not a native English speaker...
