Did that guy just call Johnny "Sportin' Life"? What the heck does that mean? Unlike the term "reet," I can't find it anywhere and I'm convinced Stan made it up.
Sportin' Life? It's the name of a character in the Musical "Porgy and Bess". It's been on Broadway a number of times but the first film version had Sammy Davis Jr. starring as the wild and crazy "Sportin' Life". Sportin' Life was a wild guy who gambled, chased women, gambled and ran con games and liked sports.
The movie came out in 1959 and I'm sure Stan saw the movie and probably saw it on Broadway too. In the early 60s this would not be an obscure reference.

I am a bit surprised someone would refer to a caucasian male as 'Sportin' Life'. Stan can be downright odd.

That's obviously Johnny's Indian name. I think I'll start using them, too.
"How's life, Needs a Raise?"
"Hiya, Forgets to Shave!"
"Wassup, Obvious Boob Job?"
"Hey there, Smokes too Much!"
(That one's my obligatory Monty Python reference for today.)
I think...I think it may be a reference to a magazine...what with Johnny in his cool roadster and all.
